Antidepressants cause diabetes in children, why has to use it

In the age group of 5 to 20, antidepressants may cause type II diabetes, shows recent research. Antidepressants, no matter SSRI, SNRI or TCA causes weight gain in the adults and youth. Now it is not surprising that they are involved in the diabetes in children.

In my previous article, I talked about medication isn’t the best solution for children anxiety. Now it comes to the depression, and the side effects are even worse. The biggest characteristic in children is the modifiability, which means that their ways of thinking and looking at the world including other people are highly modifiable. Now it comes to the point why on earth these strong medications are still given to the youth more frequently than it should be.

Being doctors we are trained to evaluate benefits and harms, and only prescribe when it is necessary. But most doctors without integrative medicine training omits the other possibilities that could benefit the children, who are in the age group very susceptible to other means of holistic treatments. Family doctors and psychiatrist don’t refer to nutritional counseling before they prescribe, because that is too much distraction from what should be done in the treatment. Even they know some diet and nutritional improvement should be done with the patients, and they may give some instructions, but they don’t really follow up on the progression in every details.

Homeopathy can be used for mild depression

Homeopathy also works for children psychiatric conditions. Most of time, it is because conventional doctors don’t know about things outside of their practice. Sometimes, it is because they don’t know how to get patients reasonably reliable integrative medical care, which is understandable, because there are so many quacks out there. For the parents, then, should have the responsibility to think outside the box before putting children on the medications with strong side effects.
